The Prime Minister attended the Chinese New Year Celebration 2013 at Yaowarat to celebrate the year of snake and to nurture Thai-Chinese cultural relations.
February 10, 2013, at 1630hrs, PM Yingluck Shinawatra attended the Chinese New Year Celebration 2013 annually held in Yaowarat Chinatown. This year celebration was co-organized by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Samphantawong community, businessmen and local residents. The event took place around HM the King’s Sixth Anniversary Birthday Commemoration Arch on Yaowarat Road and was graciously presided over by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for the opening ceremony. This year, the Chinese New Year fell on February 10-11 February 2013 which marked the beginning of Chinese zodiac year of snake. Thus, the annual event was titled “Yaowarat’s Chinese New Year: Celebration of Year of Snake 2013”. The concept of the celebration was “the God blesses and every wish is granted”, signifying the blessing from the Snake God to all honest and hardworking people of Yaowarat district. The purpose of this event was to celebrate the Chinese New Year 2013, to strengthen Thai-Chinese cultural tie, to promote Yaowarat China Town Tourism, and to enhance the renown of Yaowarat district.
At 1700 hrs. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn arrived at Traimitr Withayaram Temple to pay homage to the world largest golden Buddha image. Then Her Royal Highness headed for HM the King’s the Sixth Anniversary Birthday Commemoration Arch on Yaowarat Road to preside over the opening ceremony of Yaowarat Chinese New Year Celebration 2013.
Ms. Ninnart Chalitanon, Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, in her capacity as acting Bangkok City Mayor, reported on the purposes of the event. Next, the Chinese Minister of Culture, Mr. Cai Wu, extended humble wishes to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Then the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Guan Mu, humbly presented a gift to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Chairman of the event, Mr. Boonrit Pipattanasirikul, announced 19 persons, among which was the Prime Minister, to receive a token from Her Royal Highness. On this occasion, Thian Fah Foundation also humbly presented HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn with a golden snake sculpture made of 121.952 gram of gold.
Afterward, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously watched two Thai and Chinese cultural performances. After the spectacles, Her Royal Highness rang a bell three times to mark the opening of the event. Then Her Royal Highness visited Hok Lian Keng Shrine, Holy Rosary Church, The Siam Commercial Bank (Talad Noi Branch) and Tian Fah Foundation Hospital. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn also visited shops exhibition, including Phu Fah Shop, Chaipattana Foundation shop, Mae Fah Luang Shop, Queen Savang Vadhana Foundation Shop and THAI Shop. Lastly, before the departure, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited Siang Heng Hua Ki Pharmacy, Kasikorn Bank, Liang Seng Heng Goldsmith, and Mangkon Kamalawat Temple (Leng Noei Yi Temple).
