Myanmar wanted to be a country all people can live peacefully: Suu Kyi

National League for Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi urged all communities in the country to reconcile their differences and work towards national unity.
Suu Kyi said she wants Myanmar to be a country where all the people who can live with peace of mind, opposition party chairperson Aung San Suu Kyi.
Her desire came from a meeting with Yangon-based Islamic religious leaders held at the NLD headquarters in Bahan Township, Yangon on April 8.
The meeting focused on communal violence happened in the country.
“There is a phrase in Christian Bible expressing that a stone must be given to a person who asks for bread. In this situation, we don’t want to give the stone to those who are coming to ask for help through full confidence.”
“Anyhow, we would like people of different religions to live in the country in a peaceful coexistence upholding our emotions, expectations and objectives,” Aung San Suu Kyi said.
The rule of law is yet to be firmly established in the country as much as we can through the parliament. The Rule of Law, Peace and Stability committee chaired by Suu Kyi has no right to do what it likes. Depending on the report findings of the committee, the parliament will have to live up to them, Suu Kyi said.
“Only if we feel secure, can we go to negotiation. We can do to give and take one another. Laws must be fair for ensuring the restoration of rule of law. We all must be below the law and we must have justice and equity. What I would like is that all the people can be proud of being citizens of that country and satisfied with that. All the citizens need to get rid of the suspicions whether we are Myanmar people,” the opposition leader said.
The violence started in Meikhtila on March 20 spread to Yemathin, Tatkon and Lewe and then to Bago’s western townships of Zeegone, Oakpo, Gyobingauk and Netalin.
The people were in a state of panic because those who want to instigate the unrest distributed pamphlets to the people in Yangon on March 24. Yangon Region Government called a meeting with Yangon-based political parties on March 26 and told them not to involve in the communal violence.
Instigations were seen on social network pages in an attempt to incite the crowd to strike after the Muslim religious school on 48th Street in Botahtaung Township, Yangon Region was on fire due to the electrical fault of overheated voltage regulator, leaving 13 dead.
