April 28, 2013, at 1215hrs, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Tsakhia Elbegdorj, the President of Mongolia at the Marshal Palace. Gist as follows:
PM Yingluck first thanked the Mongolian President for his invitation to attend the 7th Conference of the Community of Democracies and to officially visit Mongolia. She congratulated the success of the meeting and pledged support for Mongolian presidency of the Community of Democracies as well as initiation of democratic studies.
PM Yingluck commended Mongolia’s economy for its remarkably high growth rate which was believed to be expanded twice as much in the next 2-3 consecutive years. She also applauded the President for his role in Mongolia’s rapid economic revival. The President of Mongolia had paid a visit to Thailand in 2005 and the foundation of relations between the two countries had since become reinforced. In her visit to Mongolia this time, PM Yingluck brought along Cabinet members and representatives from the Thai private sector which reflected Thailand’s intent to boost relations with Mongolia and to officially initiate mutual cooperation.
During the discussion, the two leaders agreed upon the exchange of visits in all levels, and came to terms that Thailand and Mongolia should develop a cooperation framework as well as encourage the private sector to take part in the mutual cooperation.
The Mongolian President expressed his interest in forging cooperation with Thailand particularly in socio-economic areas such as public health, alternative energy, infrastructure development, and value adding of raw materials that Mongolia exported as well as the exchange of Mongolian high-quality cashmere and Thai silk.
Both the Mongolian President and PM Yingluck congratulated on the signing of two significant Agreements, namely, Science and Technology Agreement, and MOU between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Mongolian Government on the establishment of discussion mechanism for bilateral cooperation in which both parties believed would contribute to the upgrade of mutual relations to the next level. Furthermore, PM Yingluck reiterated that one of the important documents for both countries’ bilateral cooperation was the Agreement for the Promotion and Protection of Investment. The President of Mongolia endorsed the Agreement which would enable Thai investment in Mongolia, and boost confidence of Thai investors in the country.
Thailand and Mongolia shared similar values and beliefs and this had helped facilitate their working closely together to promote regional and international peace and security within the UN framework.
